草裙舞的服飾隨人類社會的發展變化，從無到有，從少到多，從草料到布料，從簡易到繁雜，舞蹈風格也日趨成熟。草裙舞叫響了!當人類穿上用獸皮縫製的衣物和布料衣服時，人們就穿著這些衣服跳舞。
但草裙舞的名稱就一直沿用下來。 作為遊人，今天如果你想看到原汁原味的草裙舞那簡直是一種奢望了。這已成為夏威夷最優秀舞蹈演員的專利。
只有在重大節日或某些特殊場合加上你有相當好的運氣才有可能一飽眼福。即使本地居民購買昂貴的門票也只能在每年四月梅里女王紀念日期間的傳統草裙舞大賽中看到
二、三流演員的演出。我在毛伊島和瓦胡島先後看過三場草裙舞演出。據說這些為旅遊業而設的商業性傳統節目演出與真正草裙舞相差甚遠，只是給外行的遊客們看熱鬧。
